Yeraldine Ramos

PUERTO RICO

SEAS Islands Alliance | Navigating Home Fellow

For Yeraldine Ramos Maldonado, pursuing a career in science was not always something she imagined possible. As a biology student, her participation in SEAS Islands Alliance opened the door to research experiences, mentorship, and opportunities that helped her discover her place in the scientific community.

Her journey began with curiosity and grew through hands-on experiences that encouraged her to ask questions, explore new areas of research, and build confidence in her abilities. Through SEAS, OCEANOS, and Navigating Home, Yeraldine has continued developing her skills while contributing to environmental research in Puerto Rico.

Along the way, mentorship has played an essential role in her growth. The guidance and encouragement of women in science helped her navigate her academic and professional journey while balancing her responsibilities as a mother. Their support reinforced the importance of having people who believe in your potential and help create opportunities for you to succeed.

Today, Yeraldine's story represents more than an individual achievement. It reflects the lasting impact of programs that connect emerging scientists with meaningful research experiences, supportive mentors, and a community that encourages them to pursue their goals.

Her journey is a reminder that access to opportunity can change the direction of a life, opening doors not only to careers in science but also to new possibilities for future generations.
